Academies are Government funded schools that provide a first class, free education to young people of all abilities.
Each Academy is unique, is able to provide local solutions to local needs and draws on the expertise of sponsors to deliver a distinctive ethos. Academies have additional flexibility to be more creative in their offering, how they are organised and run. All offer a broad and balanced curriculum, consistent with national curriculum requirements.
Academies, once up and running, will receive equivalent funding to other schools in the area.
Academies, like other schools, continue to be subject to regular inspections by Ofsted.
Successful Academies share specialist experience and facilities with other primary, secondary and specialist schools, together with the local community. In this way, they play their part in the regeneration of communities, providing a focus for learning, raising aspirations and widening access to an exciting range of educational opportunities.
