Mylor and Fal Class (Yr 1)

Launch Day

#Mylor and #Fal class had a funfilled launch day yesterday! They had a special visit from a guide dog and owner in the morning, followed by a visit from the vets in the afternoon where the children met lots of different furry friends.
A warm welcome back after what we hope was an enjoyable summer break.

This term the children have decided to learn about animals, with our key question being, ‘Paws, claws, wings or whiskers?’ If you have anything that the children would like to share, please feel free to bring it in. We will be launching our new topic on Wednesday 11th September to enthuse and introduce them to their new project.

Daily routine

Each morning when the bell goes, the children are expected to line up by the outside door with all their own bags. To encourage independence we ask parents to say goodbye to their children before they enter the school building. This also helps us with safeguarding the children. The structure of the day is as follows:

08:50 Registration
09:00 RWInc or cracking comprehension
09:50 Literacy
10:50 Break
11:05 Maths
12:10 Lunch
01:00 afternoon sessions include handwriting, PE, computing, music, science, RE, art and topic work depending on the day.

PE days and Kit

Our PE day is Wednesday. Please can you ensure that your child has a t-shirt, shorts and PE shoes in school for this session. I find the best way for remembering this is putting it in a separate bag that remains on your child’s peg until each half term holiday. Girls must have their hair tied up for PE.

Home learning

Following our home learning policy, year 1 are required to complete 20 minutes of literacy or maths home learning each week. They are expected to read regularly and for this to be recorded in their reading diary. Home learning will be sent home on Tuesdays and is to be returned on Monday morning.

Spellings are tested each week on a Tuesday and new spellings will be sent home in their books. Please practice these spellings with your child and play fun games to help them learn how to spell.

We are looking forward to sharing our fantastic learning with you.

Yours sincerely

Mylor Class Team
