WOW. What a fantastic Science lesson! Fowey class have spent their morning learning about the circulatory system at Penair School. They were able to see and touch a real pig heart and lungs before learning about how these organs keep humans alive.
City of Lights
Fowey class really enjoyed their 2 creative and messy days designing and making this years ‘city of lights’ lantern. The children are all excited to walk in the parade and to show off the fantastic sculptures that they have created.
More information about the city of lights will follow shortly in a letter.
Fowey class enjoyed learning about the history of Truro Cathedral. We have learnt about Christian traditions, special events at the Cathedral and we even got to sing in the choir stands.
Fowey class have had a fantastic Launch day for our new ‘Horrible Histories’ project. A Roman soldier has taught us all about how the Romans invaded Britain and taught us some of the battle techniques that were used. We played some great games which taught us lots of interesting facts about the ‘Rotten Romans’.
A warm welcome back to Tregolls after what we hope was an enjoyable Summer break. Please see the below details of the Autumn curriculum and other key information.
May I take this opportunity to welcome our team for this academic year:
Miss Whitehouse – Class teacher
Miss Caruana – Classroom teaching assistant
Project and Science
Our new project will be focused on Horrible Histories, with the focus question being ‘Where would a time machine take you?’ We will be having our launch day on Friday 6th September when we will have a special visitor coming to teach us about some gruesome aspects of history. Throughout the term, we will learn about different periods of history and the influential people that were involved. This will all lead towards the children creating their own episode of Horrible Histories.
In Science, we will be learning about evolution and inheritance where we will learn to recognise how living things have changed over time and how fossils have helped us to learn this. During the second half term, we will be focusing on animals including humans. We will be identifying and naming the main parts of the human circulatory system, and describing the functions of the heart, blood vessels and blood
Literacy and Numeracy
The literacy throughout this term will link with the main project, we will be writing: a story about the death of Julius Caesar, a biography of an influential person from our history and a balanced argument.
Numeracy will be focused on knowing the place value of numbers to 10 million and being able to use the four operations on all whole numbers. We will break these sections down using concrete objects and images to give the children secure understanding of what they have learnt.
MFL – French and RE
Fowey Class will be learning French this term and they will be learning classroom routines and how to justify their own opinions.
In RE, the children will be learning about Christianity with a particular focus on the Holy Trinity. The RE unit will begin with a visit to Truro Cathedral which you will shortly receive a letter about.
PE days and kit
The children will be taking part in weekly PE sessions with our PE teachers Mrs Butterly. The kit requirements are:
Boys – Blue short and a Tregolls t-shirt
Girls – Leggings or blue shorts and a Tregolls t-shirt
Footwear –PE plimsolls or trainers.
As the weather will grow colder, please ensure that your child has a school jumper to wear for outdoor PE.
If you have any issues with the PE kit please come in and speak to us.
As per the Home Learning Policy, children in year 6 should be spending 45 minutes on their literacy and numeracy pieces each week. Where possible, these two pieces of homelearning will reinforce skills being taught that week in class. The children will be set homelearning which challenges them and tests their resilience. Please support your child by offering tips and advice for each piece.
In addition to the weekly literacy and numeracy piece, the children should be reading for at least 15 minutes every day. Please question your child on what they have read and then sign their homeschool reading records.
Homelearning will be given out on Thursdays and collected in on Mondays.
Open door policy
As should be aware by now, we operate an open door policy at Tregolls, and therefore I will always be on hand before or after school to discuss any issues you may have.
