We are proud to announce that our headteacher, Mr Middlemore, has been shortlisted for two major national teaching awards:

  • Headteacher of the Year in a Primary School (Pearson Teaching Awards)
  • Headteacher of the Year (TES School Awards)

This outstanding achievement is well deserved after the amazing transformation we have seen at the school over the last few years.

Tregolls was ranked in the bottom 25 schools in the country according to tables published in 2009, but results have improved rapidly since Mr Middlemore arrived in 2012.

Pupils now make outstanding progress and last year 100% of mainstream pupils achieved Level 4 in Reading, Writing and Maths and made at least expected progress in all areas, which makes the school one of the best in the country.

The school site has also changed beyond all recognition, with the 3G football pitches, early years outdoor area, library, outdoor stage, new windows and doors throughout and a state-of-the-art new build planned for next year.

Anyone visiting the school would have no idea we were in ‘special measures’ just a few years ago and that is down to the hard work and vision of Mr Middlemore, the staff and you, our supporting community.

We are incredibly proud of our achievements over the last few years – and we have plenty more planned for the future.

Mr Middlemore was also recognised for helping other headteachers right across the county, including Pete Hamlyn, from Carbeile School (50 miles away), who contacted Mr Middlemore for help turning around his school.

Mr Hamlyn said: “Matt was invaluable in terms of supporting me as a new headteacher. He was able to make sure I was heading in the right direction and he came to monitor the school to check on progress. He was always willing to share any resources and he was an excellent point of contact for someone new to the job. I asked his opinion on more than one occasion.”

We all wish Mr Middlemore well at the awards and hope the judges understand what a huge difference he has made to our school and many others.
Winners of the TES School Awards will be announced at a gala awards evening at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London on 24th June.

Winners of the Pearson Teaching Awards will be announced in October. The ceremony will be filmed by the BBC and broadcast as ‘Britain’s Classroom Heroes’ on BBC2.

If you have any stories for the judges that would support Mr Middlemore to become Headteacher of the Year please hand letters in to reception and we will forward them on.
